Tofu Makhanwala

I wanna show you guys something I put together the other night. It was exhausting! I had to organise so many spices and what not for the curry, but it was worth it. Makhanwala is just another name for the well loved 'butter chicken' (except I used tofu) that I'm sure most people will recognise. 

This was one of my favourite foods before I gave up meat, and I've no reason to miss it at all! I've made countless versions of chickpea makhani / makhanwala, tofu makhani / makhanwala, anything (potentially) goes! I'm not too sure if there's a difference between the terms makhani and makhanwala, but I've encountered this general curry under either of those names. I think makhan means butter or cream?

Just kidding, this is really easy to make.

Things I ate and drank last week.

Cooked the remains of my store bought agnolotti and tossed it with a quick spicy garlicky sauce.
To those curious, agnolotti differs from ravioli because they are made by folding a single layer of dough over some filling, while ravioli use two layers that sandwich a filling.

Green tea ice cream from a neighbour (a surprise after seeing me tweet).
Well... It was coffee flavoured, at least.
Just some little highlights of last week. I'll be posting something I cooked tonight soon! I finally dragged my butt to the grocery this afternoon, and have got a few exciting things I'm just itching to try in the kitchen. Simple recipes. But the kind that haunt you in their comforting warmth and richness.

Pink Parade


Moomba Festival! Pt. 1

This weekend, we hit up the Moomba Festival in the heart of the city. It's a free community festival with rides, concerts, competitions, food and whatever else that happens during the Labour Day long weekend every year! There's a parade, a fireworks show, trapeze classes and so much more to see.

I took my Manila girl, Belle, out with some new friends from the Monash Photography Club (which I had just recently joined, yippee!).

Sweet-Savoury Apple Pastries! Evidence of my impulses.

This recipe is testament to how hazardous I can be in the kitchen. Or in present case, in my entire little room. When I want to bake, or cook. I want to bake, or cook. King Triton wouldn't be able to send forces strong enough to stop me. 
And every now and then, this literally means pushing whatever I'm doing aside (see photo below, all my school work is to the left), and running around like a headless chook with an agenda.

Chook means chicken here. I learnt that this week. Chook. 
It also means old lady...

Christmas Cooking: Roasted Sweet Potato Couscous Stuffed Tomatoes a.k.a. Food's-gift-to-me-and-my-gift-to-you.

Out of the things I prepared for Christmas dinner, this one has got to be my favourite out of all of them because I love sweet potatoes and I love couscous. And everything else about this. I love this so much I've made it a heap more times after and it just kept getting yummier.

Got that? I love it.

Late lunch

This isn't the most sophisticated of things I've cooked, but boy does it hit the spot for a late Sunday lunch for one. Exactly what I need. It's simple, has a couple different flavours going on, and fast.

I'm actually eating right now, but really wanted to share these photos ASAP.

Christmas Cooking: I don't know what to call this pasta but it's pretty damn yummy.

Just a little bit late on these posts... Sorry haha. I'll be posting a few of the things that I cooked for the Christmas dinner that we hosted at home last year. I found out I needed to cook the morning of the 24th, because when I asked my dad, he said he didn't order anything vegetarian. Nice.

So, on to it!

Strawberry Breakfast

It's quite gloomy this morning. So I put a little something something together for breakfast to cheer me up! 
It's just a simple plate, but that's what's so lovely about it. I often take fruits for granted, so now that I cook most of my meals, I'm trying to make up for that.
You catching the drift? This gets better and better, and in the easiest of ways.
Sprinkle with brown sugar, and pour milk all over.
Mmmmmm... Delicious!
